Troja Castle in Prague ranks among the most significant buildings of the early High Baroque period in Central Europe. Count Václav Vojtěch of Šternberk had the castle built in 1678 on land that was once covered with vineyards in order to obtain a noble title, which he succeeded in doing. Its appearance is reminiscent of an Italian suburban villa, so it is more of a summer residence than a castle. Outstanding European artists were invited to participate in its construction and decoration. The project, with its distinctive Italian influence, was designed by French architect Jean Baptiste Mathey, who changed the original concept to a regular layout with a main hall in the center. Today, the castle hosts beautiful gala dinners, fashion shows, and other prestigious events. Adjacent to the castle is a magical garden, particularly suitable for welcome drinks.
